Jessie Benton Fremont was an outspoken, best selling author and political activist in a time when women couldn't vote. Against the advice of family and friends, she traveled to California in 1849 and took up residence in Bear Valley, a few miles from our vineyard. Her efforts led the way to the signing of the Yosemite Grant Act and the creation of Yosemite National Park.
